You're determined to lose weight. You're doing great, until one night you wake up and go on a 3000 calorie binge. Uh-oh...
You just had an amazing first date. You're excited about a budding romantic relationship, but the other person never calls again. Ouch...
You're inspired to start a new business. You share your idea with a friend, who cynically tells you how it will never work. With friends like that...
Well guess what? There's nothing wrong here!
As humans, we tend to internalize - and personalize - various hurts, slip-ups, and setbacks. We give a lot more significance to painful events than is good for us. And in turn, the Universe processes our attention, and delivers us more circumstances to gnaw at our resilience.
The stumbling block occurs when feeling bad becomes a way of life. It's not that we want to feel bad - it's just that often we expect to. So why is it any surprise when we keep failing to get what we truly desire? With all those negative expectations, it's like we're hard-wiring ourselves to be let down.
There IS another option, you know...
I'm proposing a break from your typical pattern of thinking. The next time a situation appears to go awry, stop the snowball effect! Gently remind yourself that nothing is wrong (it may even help to call up the thought that things are unfolding perfectly - even though you might not understand exactly how). Then shift your attention to something that makes you feel really good! With this, you'll instantly change your energy.
Imagine your world being perfect all the time! Seem impossible? Only if you say so.
I challenge you to start expecting your life to be great! When you consistently put out the vibe that everything is A-OK, the Universe hears your message like a song (rather than a complaint). And melodically, everything in front of you will begin to unfold differently too!
Until next time...
With love,
-Jeff
